We are pleased to share exciting news from one of the most respected radiation therapy providers in Puerto Rico. The Caribbean Imaging and Radiation Therapy (CIRT) Center has chosen to implement the Integral Quality Monitor (IQM) System across all three of their radiation therapy centers located in Ponce, Yauco, and Guayama. This strategic decision will significantly improve their approach to Patient-Specific Plan Verification and Machine QA for their Elekta Linear Accelerators, providing both operational efficiency and superior quality assurance.
Streamlining QA Across Multiple Centers
Managing quality assurance for multiple radiation therapy sites can be a challenging and resource-intensive task. At CIRT, the Medical Physicist, based primarily in Ponce, has traditionally been responsible for traveling to each site to conduct the essential Plan Verification and Machine QA. This time-consuming process, while necessary, can put a strain on both time and resources.
By adopting the IQM system, CIRT is taking a significant step toward solving this challenge. With the IQM system installed at all three centers, daily QA tasks will no longer require constant on-site visits from the Medical Physicist. Instead, the local Radiation Therapists will conduct these QA procedures, under remote supervision, using the IQM system’s fully automated workflow.
Why IQM?
The IQM system is purpose-built to offer seamless, real-time QA with unmatched accuracy. Whether used for Patient-Specific Plan Verification or Machine QA, IQM provides:
- Fully automated plan verification: IQM verifies every beam segment in real time with unrivalled accuracy for every modern treatment technique.
- Machine QA made simple: With its complete integration into the clinical workflow, IQM allows quick and easy machine performance checks, significantly reducing the time needed for linear accelerator QA.
- Delegation made safe and easy: The user-friendly design of IQM enables radiation therapists to confidently manage routine QA tasks with minimal training, reducing the reliance on a single on-site physicist.
Enhanced Flexibility for Medical Physicists
One of the key benefits CIRT aims to achieve with the deployment of IQM is increased flexibility for their medical physicist. With IQM in place, the physicist based in Ponce will no longer need to spend valuable time traveling between locations for routine checks. Instead, QA tasks can be remotely supervised, allowing the physicist to focus on more critical clinical activities, while still ensuring the highest standards of safety and treatment accuracy are maintained across all centers.
A Commitment to Innovation and Patient Care
At iRT Systems, we are proud to be partnering with CIRT in their journey toward smarter, more efficient QA processes. By leveraging our cutting-edge technology, CIRT will not only improve their operational efficiency but also enhance the overall patient experience. Ensuring precise, high-quality radiation therapy is at the heart of everything we do, and we are excited to see CIRT lead the way in bringing this vision to life.
We look forward to supporting more clinics as they adopt IQM and continue to push the boundaries of quality assurance in radiation therapy.
