We are excited to share a milestone in veterinary oncology achieved by the Animal Hospital Postojna (AHP), a leading-edge veterinary oncology center. AHP’s unwavering commitment to battling animal cancer has risen to a new height with the integration of our state-of-the-art IQM system.
Radiotherapy Revolutionized with IQM
AHP has set a global precedent as the very first veterinary RT center to employ the unique clinical advantages of IQM. By integrating the IQM beam attenuation into their Elekta Monaco treatment planning system, AHP now conducts real-time verification during patient treatments as well as precise pre-treatment QA. This breakthrough significantly enhances the effectiveness and accuracy of their radiotherapy services.
Pioneering Treatments with Advanced Technology
AHP is leading the way in veterinary radiotherapy with advanced techniques like stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) and Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT).
The first SRT patient that was verified with IQM in real-time during the treatment was Florian, a cat from Poland, whose owners brought him to Slovenia to treat a small meningioma.
“We are delighted to share our first successful SRT treatment for a cat with a small meningioma,”
stated Prof. Dr. Janoš Butinar.
“Our heartfelt thanks go to our Medical Physicist, Mr. Aljosa Polsak, for his great contribution to this project and the incredible team at iRT Systems for their unwavering support. IQM will now be a cornerstone in all our SRT and VMAT treatments.“
Why IQM is a Game-Changer
IQM is a perfect fit for veterinary cancer centers, particularly given the smaller tumor sizes typically found in cats and dogs. Its unparalleled sensitivity to treatment deviations, especially with smaller field sizes, makes it ideal for precision radiotherapy of small target volumes.
The fully automated, integrated process of IQM eliminates the need for user interaction, ensuring consistent and precise verification results regardless of the operator’s knowledge and experience level.
