The Technical Publication discusses the representation of the IQM in Monaco beam models for the photon Monte Carlo and Collapsed Cone Convolution dose algorithms. It compares dosimetric data measured with and without the IQM and discusses how Monaco models can be adjusted to account for the changes in the dose distribution.
It describes two different methods for creating IQM-specific beam models: a simple renormalization and a full remodeling. The clinical consensus is that a simple renormalization is usually adequate. The simple renormalization approach requires only the following steps for each beam energy and fluence type:
- Take one or more-point measurements of the transmission through the IQM.
- Request a beam model in which only a single normalization or calibration value has been changed.
- Validate the model and begin online monitoring with IQM.
